Sama Yoga Welcomes Autumn

Josh Kane, Maria Tabaschek and Kathy Sward

Sama Yoga Center in New Canaan will offer a free class to the community on September 9 at 11am to welcome the fall season. The 75-minute class is open to all (no prior yoga experience needed), and will be taught by yoga instructor Josh Kane. A casual reception and refreshments will follow.

Sama Yoga also has two new workshops on the schedule this fall. Yin/Yang: An Autumnal Equinox Gathering with Maria Tabaschek will take place on September 23 from 2 to 4pm. Originally from Mexico, Tabaschek is a holistic health coach and reiki healer as well as yoga instructor. The workshop will have a “yin/yang” focus, which Tabaschek describes as “a marriage between movement and stillness.” No prior yoga experience is necessary for this workshop, but familiarity with the basics of yoga will be helpful.

Yoga for the Management of Arthritis & Osteoporosis with Dr. Kathy Sward will be held on October 7 at 2pm. Sward is an exercise and stress physiologist, certified yoga instructor, reiki master, researcher and former professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. This two-hour workshop will explore the physiology of osteoporosis, arthritis and osteopenia, and how yoga can help. Participants will learn how to enhance healing as well as decrease discomfort and pain through gentle and therapeutic postures designed to improve bone and muscular strength. No prior yoga experience is necessary.
