Walk the Labyrinth, Dance for Peace

Celebrate the Summer Solstice by enjoying the Dances of Universal Peace and walking the Peace labyrinth at the Unitarian Church in Westport on Saturday, June 20. The Dances of Universal Peace are a truly Interfaith practice for World Peace, inviting people of all paths or none. Simple folk dances based on sacred music from all Faith traditions, they are a form of body prayer / moving meditation. Along with labyrinths, the Dances are employed in conflict-resolution projects around the world, including those between Israel and Palestine. According to Jungian Astrologer Marjorie Partch, the Summer Solstice represents the high point of the year, the culmination of the Sun’s annual cycle, the longest day before we begin the letting-go descent back toward winter. This year we are blessed with a New Moon the following day, and on the East Coast, a Grand Trine in Earth, marking it as an excellent time to plant the seeds of our intentions for the remainder of 2009.

On Saturday, June 20, the Quiet Labyrinth Walk takes place at 4 p.m., accompanied by flutist and sound healer Susan Armstrong. The Potluck at 6 p.m. features gourmet raw vegetarian food by Imani of the Alchemy Cafe in Hartford. The Dances are at 7 p.m., led by Nicholas Lizza of Rhode Island, with extraordinary drummers and musicians. The Unitarian Church is at 10 Lyons Plains Road, Westport.
