“Life After Lyme” Support Group with Deni Weber

The spring is here and talk of Lyme disease is in the air. Most of us in CT, a hot spot of Lyme, know of someone who suffers from the devastating consequences of this disease. Since it’s discovery in 1975, according to the Center for Disease Control, Lyme disease has reached epidemic proportions in the US with the yearly rate higher than newly reported HIV infections.

The disease penetrates multiple aspects of a persons’ physical, mental and emotional well-being. The lengthy list of symptoms includes head, muscle and joint pain, debilitating fatigue, cognitive problems, panic attacks, mood swings, irritability and depression. People struggle with an inability to work or attend school, financial and marital problems, feelings of isolation and loneliness along with fears and worries about the future.

For those with Lyme disease, dealing with the large multitude of changing and unpredictable symptoms is both psychologically and physically overwhelming. Living with this stress can be extremely difficult, but don’t give up hope - there is life after Lyme.

Deni Weber, a holistic psychotherapist and long time Lyme disease sufferer, is forming an on-going therapy support group, ‘Life After Lyme’, to help change your relationship to the state of chronic illness and it’s associated stress. Together group members will explore ways to attain a better quality of life and learn effective and empowering stress reduction and pain management techniques in a warm, compassionate and supportive environment.

Deni believes that everything in life happens for a reason, is an opportunity to grow, and can be viewed as a teaching. “For me, Lyme disease, although painful, has been a healing journey; a ‘gift’ of suffering that continually guides me to listen to what my body is saying.” With that awareness and the practice of acceptance she has transformed distress and crisis into calm and centeredness.

The “Life After Lyme” group begins with an introductory meeting on Tuesday, June 15th from 6 to 7 p.m. For more information and to reserve a place, call 201.544.6094. Deni Weber’s office is located in the Georgetown section of Weston, CT.
