Fairfield Physician Awarded Scholarship for Study in China
Kristine DeMarco, DC, MS, is the 2017 recipient of the University of Bridgeport Acupuncture Institute China Scholarship Award for her research paper, “Acupuncture in the Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis”. The scholarship is a two-week trip, which will allow Dr. DeMarco to attend the Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine this July in Shenyang, China. While there, she will be taking classes as well as doing clinical rounds in Liaoning Hospital, Shenyang, China.
DeMarco’s passion in this topic developed after meeting many patients who presented with plantar fasciitis but experienced little relief with traditional treatments. She hopes to develop a new technique of treating plantar fasciitis in order to begin a pilot study in the U.S. with her patients.
DeMarco has been in private practice for 17 years at Black Rock Holistic Center in Fairfield and integrates chiropractic, nutrition and acupuncture services to treat musculoskeletal disorders. She is also certified in Cox flexion distraction, Graston technique, applied kinesiology and acupuncture. Her specialty is spinal decompression in the treatment of the spine for patients who suffer with nerve compression due to disc bulges. She works with local orthopedic groups to find final solutions to pain when conservative, conventional care does not resolve the issue.
