Annual Animal Blessing in Redding: Bring the Pets!

The Tibetan Buddhist Center for Universal Peace will host an annual Animal Blessing on June 6 from 2 to 4pm (raindate June 7). People of all faiths and animal companions of all sizes can participate in this free family-friendly event. The ceremony, which will be held at 30 Putnam Park Road in Redding, will be led by the resident monks around 3:30pm after the guest speaker’s talk.

This year’s guest speaker will be Peter V.K. Reid, associate director and co-founder of Wildlife in Crisis, Inc., which is the largest wildlife and rescue rehabilitation center in Connecticut. Since its founding in 1989, Wildlife in Crisis has helped care for hundreds of injured and orphaned birds and mammals. The organization also engages in education and habitat preservation in an effort to decrease the daily casualties of human and wildlife interaction.

Wildlife in Crisis will be collecting donations of Purina Puppy Chow, Science Diet Puppy Chow, Small Bites and paper towels at the event to help with its daily operations.

In the past, a great variety of animals have participated, including horses, goats, guinea pigs, reptiles, cats and dogs. Come early and enjoy a walk on the property. The Animal Blessing will include prayers for the protection, health, long life and future path to liberation for the animals. For the safety and comfort of all, animals must be on a leash.
