Annual Wellness and Sports Event Returns to Stamford

Chelsea Piers Stamford is getting ready to host the sixth annual Stamford Health-sponsored Health Wellness & Sports Expo 2017, presented by WABC-TV. The event will take place October 21 from 10am to 4pm and October 22 from 11am to 5pm. Admission and parking are free.

Expo visitors will find health education, fun activities for children and special guests as well as the latest information, products, services and demos from more than 100 exhibitors.

“We are excited to be part of this annual event again this year,” says Vicki Hoffman, director of Orthopedic Service Line, Stamford Health. “Expo 2017 will address a wide variety of health concerns and feature many innovative exhibits to help the community set off on a healthy course.”

Staff from Stamford Health will provide information on many medical conditions and treatments, and children will enjoy the Stamford Health volunteer HAHA clowns. In conjunction with Stamford Health’s Department of Trauma Services, there will be a Touch-a-Truck from the Stamford Fire Department in the parking lot at Chelsea Piers both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Visitors are encouraged to bring nonperishable food for The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County and receive a free raffle ticket. Raffle tickets can also be purchased for $5. Raffle prizes will be announced throughout the weekend. All visitors will receive a Passport for Life, provided by Healthcare News, to record their expo participation. Those who visit 40 exhibits can receive a complimentary day pass to Chelsea Piers Connecticut. There will also be flu shots provided by CVS Health (insurance and/or cash payments accepted).

New attractions this year include Discover Scuba classes with Capt. Saam’s Scuba School at the Chelsea Piers pool on Sunday afternoon. The Loft Healthy Seminars is a series of ten 45-minute presentations on timely food topics by area restaurant representatives in a lounge-like setting in the Healthy Restaurant Sampling Zone. Visitors can taste healthy cuisine and beverages from 18 restaurants.

Special guests will include Gillian Neff of News 12 Connecticut. Jenna Hourani, RDN, a retail dietitian from Grade A ShopRite, will offer healthy food demos. Billy Blanks Jr., of Shark Tank fame, will conduct his popular Dance It Out fitness class on Saturday and Sunday at the Chelsea Piers Athletic Club. Visitors can meet additional As Seen on Shark Tank wellness entrepreneurs at the Expo’s Shark Tank Health Zone.
