Artist Day at Flanders Nature Center

Apr 30, 2026 11:00AM ● By Erica Mills

Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust will host Artist Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, on the scenic grounds of the Van Vleck Sanctuary, 5 Church Hill Rd., Woodbury.

Artists, craftspeople and photographers are invited to create en plein air, drawing inspiration from the sanctuary’s woodlands, meadows, ponds and historic buildings. The complimentary event is open to all skill levels; pre-registration is requested.

Participants may be eligible to exhibit their work in Flanders’ fifth annual Exhibition of Art in October at the Van Vleck Gallery. Check-in information and property maps will be available at the Van Vleck House upon arrival.

The more than 200-acre sanctuary includes barns, trails and the former home and studio of Natalie Van Vleck, an early Modernist painter whose creative legacy continues to inspire the property’s programming. In addition to her artistic work, Van Vleck was known for her gardening and livestock farming.

The sanctuary is open daily from dawn to dusk for those seeking ongoing creative inspiration.

Location: 5 Church Hill Rd., Woodbury. For more information or to pre-register, call 203-263-3711 or visit FlandersNatureCenter.org.
