Welcome please join us for a free preview of our new weekly class with Marlene Tendler. It will be starting Wednesday Sept 10th at 9:30am.
With an emphasis on body alignment, muscle engagement, and breath awareness, this practice is safe and beneficial for all body types and levels of experience. With the use of props, all poses are accessible to each person. Practice standing poses, which develop strength and stamina; seated poses to enhance flexibility; twists, which cleanse the organs; forward bends, which are introspective and calming; backbends, which are calmly energizing; and inversions, which stimulate the cardiopulmonary and endocrine systems.
Beyond the physical, this practice offers a rich philosophical dimension. The Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali, a collection of 196 aphorisms guiding one along life's journey, are an integral part of this practice.
About the Instructor: Marlene Tendler has held a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 200 certification since 2000 and in 2016 was recognized as a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider. She holds a Relax and Renew Trainer Certificate (2006) from Judith Lasater. She has trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli (2002). Marlene has taught in Northern Fairfield County for 25 years. Her teaching and practice are inspired by the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. She is a lifelong Iyengar practitioner studying at the Iyengar Institute in NYC and in 2009 participated in a month-long intensive at Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India where she studied with B.K.S. Iyengar, his daughter Geeta, and his son Prashant.
Marlene provides clear and precise instructions on structural alignment and teaches poses (asanas) in a systematic way, first building the foundation of the pose within a class and then reinforcing and refining the poses in subsequent classes. This approach is therapeutic in many ways, helping to realign the body, as well as developing strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility in body and mind. With practice, one begins to develop discriminative awareness, which becomes infused into everyday life. Marlene welcomes and enjoys teaching both new and seasoned practitioners in both group and private classes.
