What is Ecstatic Dance? Ecstatic dance is a free-form, unchoreographed movement practice where participants dance intuitively to music in a safe, non-judgmental environment. It combines conscious dance, meditation, self-expression, and somatic movement to help dancers release inhibitions, process emotions, and connect spiritually or deeply with themselves and relating to others, as desired. What to expect: A warm welcome circle and brief warm-up, then free expression, as guided by the music and your inner wisdom, then a slow cool down and closing circle. There will be a small altar for quiet reflection and meditative solitude within the space. Our guidelines are simple but very important, for the safety of all our participants: Respect personal space: There are no prescribed steps, and dancers can choose to dance alone or interact with others as long as it is consensual. Judgement-free zone: Self-witness judgement of self or others, as safe expression of all emotions are welcome. There are no right or wrong ways to move. No talking: The dance floor is a non-verbal space to encourage inward focus and prevent distractions. Non-verbal communication is encouraged, take conversations outside the space. A strictly sober and substance-free space. No shoes: bare feet are traditionally encouraged to feel more grounded and connected. No phones or cameras: This ensures privacy and allows participants to stay entirely present. To hold a safe and inclusive space, inappropriate and/or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave if necessary, for the integrity of the experience.
