Local Pet Food Business and Holistic Vet Partner

Daisy Eating Paul's Food

locally sourced pet food business teamed up with a holistic veterinarian to offer consultations, custom recipes and door-to-door deliveries. Originally from Exeter, New Hampshire, Paul Gallant’s business, Paul’s Custom Pet Food, is now located in the Litchfield Hills, but serves customers throughout the Northeast. Recently, the business paired up with holistic veterinarian, Judy Morgan, DVM, CVA, CVCP, to offer Gallant’s customers private, fee-based telephone consultations.

In 2010, Paul Gallant’s three-year-old dog was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Rather than submit Hunter to invasive surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiation, Paul and his wife Lynn worked with a local veterinarian to treat Hunter’s cancer with a combination of Chinese herbal remedies and home-cooked food made of local grass-fed beef, organic vegetables and barley. He is now five years in remission. Gallant has been cooking for Hunter—and for other dogs and cats—ever since.

“Hunter is a living example that a healthful, chemical-, preservative-, and filler-free diet is a pathway to a long and active life,” Gallant said. “I want to share my experience with other pets and pet owners by working with veterinarians and pet nutritionists to cook the cleanest dog and cat food available.”

Morgan earned her certifications for acupuncture and food therapy from the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is also the author of From Needles to Natural, a holistic pet health book covering a variety of topics, including pet nutrition and food therapy, pet-food labeling, veterinary chiropractic care, acupuncture, and understanding vaccines and medications.

In her consultations with pet owners, Morgan helps to determine the best food, supplements and veterinary treatment for your pet’s specific needs and make recommendations for personalized dietary formulations. She will work with your veterinarian or pet nutritionist as well. If you’re unable to cook for your pet yourself, Paul’s Custom Pet Food will fill the gap, personally preparing small batches of Morgan’s formulations in a state board-of-health-certified kitchen and delivering or shipping the food to your door.
