The 13th Annual Health Wellness & Lifestyle Expo 2024 with special thanks to Stamford Health, Exclusive Healthcare Partner, will be held September 7, from 10am to 6pm, at Harbor Point, Stamford’s beautiful waterfront community. This is Connecticut’s largest and premier, family- and pet-friendly, health and wellness extravaganza featuring over 120 sponsors and exhibitors, 10 different zones, free health screenings provided by Stamford Health and other sponsors and exhibitors, free group classes situated along the stunning Harbor Point boardwalk, free admission and free parking.

Stamford Health’s dedication and commitment to men’s health continues to be studied to decrease the risk of chronic diseases and develop guidelines to enhance good health. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the leading causes of death in men over 45 years old are cancer (mainly colon, prostate, liver and lung cancer), heart diseases and stroke. The prevalence of these diseases increases with age.

Here are some action steps to help improve men’s health status and decrease the risks of developing the above diseases.

Stay active: Play ball, ride a bike, swim or any other physical activity on a regular basis for at least 2 ½ hours a week considered moderate activity.

Get enough sleep. Seven to nine hours per night is considered a healthy amount. Lack of sleep is related to increased risks of chronic diseases such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and depression. Sleep deprivation is related to injuries and death related to motor vehicle accidents.

Quit smoking and avoid secondhand smoke.

Reduce stress through socialization, meditation or any other activity that helps you promote a stress-free life.

Get regular check-ups with your doctor.

Follow a healthy diet.

Limit salt intake to no more than 2,300 mg/day. A person with high blood pressure should limit their sodium to no more than 1,500 mg/day.

Limit alcohol intake to no more than two drinks per day. Refrain from binge drinking over the weekend.

A new sponsor of the HWL Expo this year is GameDay Men’s Health Stamford, a concierge, customized health membership concept set in a man-cave style clinic, opening in Stamford this summer. They offer a “Core Four” sample of services: testosterone replacement therapy, erectile dysfunction treatment, vitamins/peptides and weight loss. Their mission is dedicated to improving the lives of men and optimizing their health. GameDay Men’s Health is supervised by a physician, but the doctor does not practice on site nor treat customers.
