The Art of Seeing in Photography Classes

Ridgefield’s Basil Yoga will host the Zen & The Art of Seeing: Photography as Meditation workshop on September 10 from 1-6pm. The class will focus on learning to use your camera to expand your relationship with nature. Smartphone cameras and point-and-shoot cameras are acceptable for this class. Pre-registration is required for the $50 event, given by Elisabeth J. Levy, a professional photographer and mindfulness instructor based in Bethel.

This special one-day workshop is part of a three-session course offered at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Danbury. Zen & The Art of Seeing, Part I: A Kind & Gentle Introduction to Creative Photography will be held September 24 and October 1 from 1:30-4:30pm. This two-session workshop provides an opportunity for those who have been wanting to make the leap out of “auto” mode on their camera and take the next step with their photography. You will be guided into the world of aperture, shutter speed and the basics of composition and design.

The second part, Photography As Meditation, will take place on October 15 from 11am-4pm. Building upon themes introduced in Part I, this workshop explores the use of a camera as a meditative tool. Through theory, guided meditation and field exercises, participants will learn to enhance mindfulness while enhancing images at the same time.

Pre-registration is required. The cost is $45 for Part I or Part II, or $80 for the series if registered by September 17 ($90 afterward).
