Stamford Hospital Receives National Recognition from the American Heart Association

For the 11th consecutive year, Stamford Health is at the forefront of Connecticut’s largest health expo—the 11th Annual Health Wellness & Lifestyle Expo 2022, taking place September 10, from 10am to 6pm at Harbor Point Boardwalk, in Stamford.

As the Exclusive Healthcare Partner, Stamford Health continues to provide support to the HWL Expo, which has grown exponentially throughout the years, providing businesses in the health and wellness fields a platform to communicate with consumers and sell products and services, and an educational and enjoyable event for the general public to gain knowledge and inspiration to live their best life. The event is free.

Attendees can also look forward to visiting Stamford Health at the event for a variety of informative services, including programs from Sarner Health and Fitness Institute, stroke care led by Stamford Health’s Neurosciences, heart health and CPR instruction with the Heart and Vascular Team, and fun with the HAHAs, volunteer Health and Humor Associates who spread joy and laughter to patients of all ages.

In June 2022, Stamford Hospital received three American Heart Association (AHA) achievement awards, including the Mission: Lifeline NSTEMI Gold Award, Mission: Lifeline STEMI Gold Award, and the Get With The Guidelines Resuscitation Silver Award, recognizing Stamford Hospital’s commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, delivering care in line with the highest standards of quality and clinical best practices established by the American Heart Association, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.

“At Stamford Hospital, our interdisciplinary teams provide both emergent and routine cardiac care, while working collaboratively to deliver high-quality outcomes to our patients,” say David Hsi, M.D., FACC, FASE, Chief of Cardiology & Co-Director, Heart & Vascular Institute, and Scott Martin, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, Medical Director of Cardiac Cath Lab and Interventional Cardiology. “We are very proud of this recognition, which is a true testament to our staff’s compassion, teamwork and dedication to patient safety.”

According to the AHA, coronary heart disease remains the leading cause of death on a global level. U.S. findings report that about 25 percent of adults do not engage in physical activity at all and American diets remain too high in calories, saturated fat, sodium and added sugars, and do not incorporate enough fruits, vegetables, whole grains, calcium and fiber. Recently, the AHA introduced “Healthy for Good”, a healthy living movement to inspire lasting change in your health and your life, one small step at a time. The approach is simple: Eat smart. Move more. Be well.

AHA recommends getting at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes per week of vigorous aerobic activity, or a combination of both, preferably spread throughout the week. Spend less time sitting. Even light-intensity activity can offset some of the risks of being sedentary. Increase amount and intensity gradually over time. New dietary guidance emphasizes balance: It’s not all or nothing. “Balance” is the latest word on heart-healthy eating, according to a new report that encourages people to adapt broad eating habits instead of focusing on single foods—and it’s not one-size-fits-all.

The 11th Annual Health Wellness & Lifestyle Expo 2022 will address these heart health concentrations throughout the event with an exciting variety of exhibitors showcasing, educating and selling health and wellness products and services. A highlight of the HWL Expo is the schedule of free and spirited fitness classes led by the area’s top fitness instructors, including the always-entertaining Billy Blanks, Jr. of Dance it Out, as seen on Lifetime Television.

Additional heart health exhibitors include Grade A ShopRite, Support Sponsor, who will offer express nutrition consultations with their registered dietitians, live healthy cooking demonstrations and a raffle to win a gift basket of Grade A ShopRite’s Bowl & Basket healthy foods. Also visit with Passport For Life Sponsor GoodCell personal cell biobanking, In A Heartbeat CPR and AED specialists, Isagenix weight management and nutrition, Tea of Life medicinal herbal teas, author Dr. John P. Salerno of Dr. Salerno’s Silver Cloud Diet and Fight Fat with Fat, and many more.
