Summer is finally here and I could not be happier. There is something about this season that feels both energizing and calming at the same time. The days are longer, the sunshine is warmer and life seems to naturally shift outdoors. After months of rushing from one obligation to the next, summer invites us to slow our pace, take a deep breath and reconnect with the world around us.
Our theme this month, Good Vibes, Great Outdoors, celebrates all the wonderful ways nature can support our health, happiness and well-being. Sometimes we forget how much we need fresh air, sunshine and open spaces. We spend so much of our time indoors, behind screens and moving from one responsibility to another that we lose sight of the simple things that help us feel grounded.
This month, I encourage you to take down the walls and get outside. Bring a sketchbook to the river, lake or beach and spend an afternoon creating. Take an exercise class in the park. Go for a hike, a bike ride or a long walk with a friend. Visit a local farmers market. Watch a sunset. Sit quietly under a tree and listen to the sounds around you. These moments may seem small, but they have a remarkable way of restoring our energy and helping us reconnect with ourselves.
Summer is also a season of family and togetherness. It is a time for backyard gatherings, beach days, vacations and creating memories with the people we love. This year feels especially meaningful to me as my youngest daughter recently graduated from high school. Like many parents, I find myself wondering where the time has gone. It seems like just yesterday she was heading off to kindergarten and now she is preparing for the next chapter of her life.
That milestone has reminded me how valuable unhurried time with family truly is. The quiet moments often become the ones we cherish most. A simple dinner on the patio, a weekend road trip or an evening spent laughing together can be far more meaningful than anything on a schedule. Summer gives us permission to make time for those experiences and I hope we all take advantage of it.
Be sure to check out our local drumming resources in this month's issue, on page 11. Drumming circles and community drumming events are a fantastic way to meet new people, reduce stress and tap into your creative and musical side. There is something incredibly uplifting about gathering with others and sharing rhythm and energy in a welcoming environment. You may discover a new hobby, make new friends or simply enjoy an afternoon filled with fun and connection.
As you enjoy this issue, I hope you find plenty of inspiration to spend more time outdoors and embrace the good vibes that summer brings. Nature has a way of reminding us what matters most. It encourages us to be present, appreciate the beauty around us and enjoy the people who make our lives meaningful.
Wishing you a joyful, healthy and memorable summer filled with sunshine, adventure and plenty of time outdoors.
