The ninth annual Greenwich-Stamford Swim Across America event will be held on June 27. The swimmers will jump off from the Stamford/Greenwich shores next to Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT), the beneficiary of the swim and a foundation dedicated exclusively to funding cancer gene therapy research.

The 2015 Greenwich-Stamford Swim will bring together recreational swimmers, competitive swimmers, Master swimmers, Olympians, kayakers and boaters to participate in an open water swim with half-mile, 1.5-mile and 3-mile options. Those who register before May 1 will get an additional $100 added to their fundraising goal by a Swim Across America supporter.

The national organization has raised $60 million in the fight against cancer with swims throughout the United States since its founding in 1987. Proceeds of the 2015 Greenwich-Stamford Swim’s fundraising efforts go directly to cancer research grants administered by ACGT, which dedicates 100 percent of all funds raised. Chairs for this year’s swim are Michele Graham and Lorrie Lorenz, both mothers of teenage cancer survivors. Honorary co-chairs are Donna DeVarona, John Pinto, and John and Cindy Sites.

“When my daughter was undergoing chemotherapy and struggled to recover from the devastating complications, I was overwhelmed by how much the community rallied to our side and supported us,” says Michele Graham. “Co-chairing Swim Across America is our chance to give back and support everyone whose life is touched by cancer. No one’s cancer is easy… Our goal is to raise funds for cancer treatment and prevention research so that everyone can be a survivor.”

Registration is required and can be completed online at SwimAcrossAmerica.org. For additional information, call 203-570-9195.
