Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. I often joke that it’s because there are no gifts to buy or give, but the real reason is much more meaningful. Year after year, Thanksgiving brings my family together, giving us an opportunity to slow down, reconnect and simply enjoy being in one another’s company.
Growing up in a family with strong Italian roots, food was always at the heart of our gatherings. Thanksgiving was no exception. The parade playing on television, the bustle of preparing the meal, the pies, the laughter and, of course, the many courses of food that seemed to keep coming long after everyone was full. Yet, as wonderful as the food and traditions were, what made the day special was never really the meal itself. It was the time we shared around the table.
One of our most cherished traditions is taking turns sharing what we are thankful for before we begin eating. Some years bring laughter and lighthearted reflections, while others inspire more heartfelt moments. Regardless of what is shared, there is always an overwhelming sense of love, connection and appreciation.
As I reflect on Thanksgivings past and consider where life has brought me today, I realize more than ever that my greatest blessing is my family. I am surrounded by so much love, and the memories we have created together are reminders of what truly matters. They have also taught me that gratitude should not be reserved for one day in November, but carried with us throughout the year.
That spirit of gratitude is woven throughout this month's Natural Awakenings. As we explore the connections between gratitude, health, mindful choices and personal well-being, we are reminded that caring for ourselves and one another is among the most meaningful ways to honor life's blessings.
This Thanksgiving, I hope you find time to slow down, embrace your traditions and appreciate the people who make your life richer. I also recognize that the holiday doesn't look the same for everyone, and that gathering with family isn't always possible. Wherever this season finds you, I hope it brings opportunities for gratitude, meaningful connections and a sense of belonging within your community.
Wishing you and your loved ones a beautiful Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, laughter and love.
With gratitude,
